Sail the Phoenix: St. Maarten's Largest Luxury Catamaran

activities Mar 6, 2026

Most luxury catamarans of this calibre are not available for day trips. They charter by the week to guests who can afford to sail the Caribbean in private. The Phoenix is the exception — and for visitors to Sint Maarten, that is a genuine opportunity.

The Phoenix is a 62-foot luxury catamaran owned by German transatlantic sailor Captain Guido Polko, who has adapted his personal yacht for day charters along the Sint Maarten coastline. Size matters on a day sail: the Phoenix provides a stable, comfortable platform even when the sea gets lively, which makes it an accessible experience for sailing newcomers without sacrificing anything for those who know their way around a deck.

The Day Sail

Departing from Dock Maarten in Philipsburg, the Phoenix raises sail and sets course for Mullet Bay — a protected anchorage where guests can snorkel, use the water toys, or simply settle in with snacks and cocktails on deck. The return cruise passes Maho Beach at the moment the runway of Princess Juliana International Airport comes into view. When a transatlantic jet clears the yacht's mast on final approach, the effect is something photographs do not fully capture.

The sail runs approximately five hours. The yacht is spacious, properly equipped, and includes his-and-her restrooms — a detail that matters on a half-day excursion.

Private Charters and Sunset Cruises

The Phoenix is also available for sunset cruises and fully private charter events. For groups wanting an exclusive experience on the water — corporate events, celebrations, or simply an evening on the Caribbean — private charter enquiries are welcome.
