Happy Bay Beach - The Undeveloped Paradise
Happy Bay is one of St. Martin's best kept secrets — a pristine, undeveloped beach on the French side that rewards those willing to make a short effort to reach it. No bars, no beach chairs for rent, no vendors. Just white sand, turquoise water and the kind of unspoiled Caribbean beauty that is increasingly rare on a popular island.
To reach Happy Bay, you park at Friar's Bay and follow a well-marked path through the hillside. The walk takes approximately 10-15 minutes and is manageable for most visitors — comfortable shoes are recommended over flip flops for the uneven terrain. The effort is absolutely worth it.
The beach itself stretches in a graceful curve, framed by lush green hills on both sides. The calm, clear water is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Without the infrastructure of a developed beach, Happy Bay retains a sense of discovery that has largely disappeared from the island's more famous spots.
Nudists and textile swimmers coexist naturally and harmoniously at Happy Bay — a reflection of the relaxed, tolerant spirit that defines St. Martin's French side. There is no designated section — visitors simply choose their own comfort level and the atmosphere is always respectful and welcoming.
What to bring:
Since there are no bars or vendors on the beach, come prepared:

- 🏖️ Your own beach towel and umbrella if you want shade. There are also tall palm trees to provide shade and give a South-Pacific backdrop
